Disney Woman of 1930: Snow

Part of my "Decades of Disney Women". This is a series of pictures celebrating fashions and admirable qualities of women from 1900-1950, with the main six Disney princesses chosen to exemplify the ideals of past decades.

1930: Snow White from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves"

Snow’s outfit is both loose and fitted at once to create a soft, willowy feel. Dress is geometrical and asymmetrical, as was much 30s clothing due to the popularity of art deco. Skirt is a bit longer than 1920. Accessories were crucial during this time and include a dapper feather hat, cummerbund-style belt, quintessential white gloves, and classy flats.

1930s were the time of the Great Depression, and women during this time were faced with the stresses of poverty. In spite of this, it was important to maintain an amiable outlook and dream of better things to come. These women were emotionally strong in the face of economic despair, not to mention the impending war. I chose Snow White for the 1930s because of her emotional strength and blithe, hopeful demeanor.

Fun fact: It used to be considered extremely improper for women to not wear stockings.
