Part of my "Decades of Disney Women". This is a series of pictures celebrating fashions and admirable qualities of women from 1900-1950, with the main six Disney princesses chosen to exemplify the ideals of past decades.

----

1920: Ariel from "The Little Mermaid"

Ariel has a very fun and classic 1920s outfit. Two piece outfit consisting of loose sweater and skirt just below the knee. Sweater design is geometrical due to the influential beginnings of the art deco movement. Colors are bright and fun, with a mix-and-match theme. Accessories include white stockings, red buckle heels, handbag, and head scarf (influenced by Rita Moreno’s outfit in “Singin’ in the Rain”;).

1920s were full of gaiety and charm. Coming out of WWI, people were celebrating and hadn’t a care in the world. Women had recently been liberated from corsets and other previously restraining clothing (a great deal of thanks to Coco Chanel’s huge influence during this period. She believed clothes are meant to be comfortable…How novel!) so they now were more active, playing sports and having fun. Ariel has always seemed to have this 20s spirit: fun and sporty, with lots of spunk.

Fun fact: Many attribute the invention of the little black dress to Coco Chanel.

Refreshing in a whole new way, especially for anything disney related -- and as popular as ariel.

Have you ever noticed, that if you don't push Shift whilst writing a smiley face, you get an orgasm face? :) --> ;0

That was the fad at the time. I love art deco style. I would probably really enjoy Napier.
